June – Fun for Kids with Playworks and The Y

For June, the focus of our events was on creating fun for kids- it truly doesn’t get better than that! We again worked with our friends from the Y and Playworks to build, paint, and design games for their kids.

Our volunteers at the Y in Waverly, had camp headquarters looking snazzy and well-equipped by the end of the day. We built cornhole games, giant tic-tac-toe boards, and backpack racks. The camp opened two days after we were there, just in time for the kids to enjoy our handiwork all summer long.

We were also excited to work with Playworks to spruce up Gardenville and City Springs Elementary School. Playworks is a great partner who always reminds our volunteers how fun getting outside and playing with your friends can be. We started the day with a few games lead by the Playworks coaches to introduce ourselves and reminisce on recess memories. At both schools, we transformed empty lots into a colorful playgrounds filled with a Ravens-themed four square, hopscotch, kickball, and basketball courts. We’re positive the kids loved the space after receiving this message from them! After cleaning up our paint, we couldn’t resist ending the day with a rock-paper-scissors-tournament.

Our volunteers then convened at Creative Alliance where we drank brews from Harpoon Brewery and tried the new (and AWESOME) Well Crafted Pizza food truck for the first time. After having volunteered with Creative Alliance in the past, we saw their space and learned more about their work. The proceeds collected from the day’s drinks were donated to future Creative Alliance programming.
