December – Salvation Army and Believe in Tomorrow

Not to brag, but our holiday events have received critical acclaim in previous Baltimore news outlets, and this event was no different.

The capstone of our year is always spent at the Salvation Army on 29th Street, sorting, organizing and wrapping toys for children. Our VU elves did not disappoint this year, as we wrapped over a thousand Baltimore Raven bobble heads! Volunteers began the day by sorting toys in the Salvation Army’s large warehouse, followed by the wrap-a-thon that ensued later in the event. We listened to holiday music including some Baltimore-inspired ‘crabs for christmas’ tunes.

We also had volunteers at Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle School making holiday crafts, decorations, and murals for the Believe in Tomorrow’s Children house. We made some sweet paper chain decorations and brushed up on our scissor skills while crafting snowflakes. We also helped decorate a literacy and math room.

After the events, we stretched our legs and took a stroll around the corner to Peabody Heights Brewery for some local brews. Our friends from Well Crafted Pizza braved the cold to feed us some truly delicious pizza. There was even a dessert pizza! Of course, a VU holiday party would not be complete without our annual costume contest! There were some strong contenders, but we all knew when he entered the room, who would take home the grand prize. Buddy the Elf had graced us with his presence and helped spread holiday cheer throughout our after party. He took home Chipotle gift cards to celebrate his win at the North Pole.
