September- Druid Hill Park

It was a September event to remember, a Druid Hill Park event with no rain! Prior to the event volunteers were invited to a free outdoor yoga class to get their body and mind ready to volunteer. Our volunteers came out in droves to weed, plant, and beautify one of Baltimore’s oldest parks. 150 volunteers descended on the park to make it a greener and cleaner space for local citizens. We removed invasive vines, mulched, and tended to flower beds. Down the street another group of volunteers worked with Councilmen Costello and Pinkett to do some clean-up in Districts 7 and 11. The councilmen later spoke to the full group of volunteers about the importance of our work and future volunteerism.

The after party was held under the Columbia Pavillion at Druid Hill Park. We had lawn games, soccer, and a high-stakes cornhole tournament. Volunteers enjoyed FREE beer courtesy of Bond Distributing and New Belgium. There was free wine, food trucks, and snapchat filters to capture the day. We rocked out to tunes from Time Police and even had a professional photographer, Valentina Massa on hand to make us look good.

This event has become a VU staple complete with a lot of hard work and a guaranteed good time. If you’d like to volunteer on your own, reach out to Baltimore City Rec and Parks at fran.spero@baltimorecity.gov and TyJuan Rice at trice@druidheights.com.
