November- Playworks at Calverton Elementary

The forecast looked a bit chilly, but that didn’t stop our volunteers from bringing their handiwork to Calverton Elementary. This month we partnered with Playworks to beautify the playground at Calverton Elementary. We joined forces with local community members and school staff to paint the blacktop, complete with basketball courts, four square, and relay races. The morning began with hot cocoa to combat the 40 degree temps, followed by ice breakers facilitated by Playworks. Who doesn’t love a good ice breaker? Especially one that involves dancing and sharing childhood memories! After that we got to work breaking up into teams to transform a barren blacktop into a vibrant recess yard. If you visit Calverton Elementary today, you’ll find purples, blues and oranges- stripes, stars, and boxes. There are even a few inspirational messages scattered through the playground.

After our work was done, we headed to Power Plant Live! for their Bacon Jam fest! We had a few bacon inspired cocktails and bacon on a stick.
