Volunteering Untapped’s July Event Across the City!
July 11 @ 10:00 am - July 12 @ 10:00 pmFree
For July’s #SecondSaturday event, we’re supporting the efforts of some of Baltimore’s eco-champions – Trash Free Maryland, Healthy Harbor, and Keep Maryland Beautiful – by hosting a social-distant TRASHENGER HUNT!
(That’d be a trash scavenger hunt. Get it? 🙄 Ehh… we try…)
We figured everyone has had one too many Zoom meetings already so we’re trying something new and sending you out on your own on July 11th (Sat.) and 12th (Sun.) at any time! But to keep it interesting, we’re challenging you to find all the items in our trashenger hunt. Find the items, check them off, tag us on social media, and you just may win a gift card to some of the best local, Black-owned restaurants that Bmore has to offer.
Picking up trash not your thing and/or worried about it raining or being hotter than the hinges of hell? We got you covered. Sign up to cook a delicious dish (or 2 or 3) for families being served at St. Vincent de Paul. We’ll provide the recipes and instructions so you can bring out your inner Julia Child/José Andrés.
And since our “event” is all weekend, any time is a good time for an afterparty! In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, we are encouraging all of our volunteers to check out one of Baltimore’s Black-owned bars or restaurants. Find one in your neighborhood, find one across town, but find one and go. Supporting and spending money at Black-owned businesses is just one way to help reduce the racial wealth gap in America. (Un-fun fact: the number African-American business owners has dropped by 40+% due to the pandemic compared to the national average across all races of 22%)
TO ENTER FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN A GIFT CARD – just take a picture of your trashenger hunt “finds” or your dish and tag us on social media by 8pm on Sunday night (@volunteeringuntapped and #voluntbeering)
And check out this list of Black-owned restaurants in Baltimore to find one to try this weekend!
