November – Message of Hope and LCF Thanksgiving

With the holiday season and Thanksgiving upon us, November’s event gave us the opportunity to brighten someone’s day.

For the first time, we partnered with the Message of Hope Foundation to help them fullfill their commitment of delivering “Happy Hope Bags” to hospitalized children nationwide. We began the event by watching a video from their founder and Chief Happy Hope Fairy, Emi Burke. She described her experiences going in and out of hospitals regularly with her son, Conor, and how she knew she had to do something to deliver hope.

After grounding our volunteers in why these messages of hope were so important, we set to work making cards, stickering bookmarks, and creating 1,500 bracelet kits and t-shirts. Our volunteers relaxed while coloring with markers and crayons and thinking of uplifting messages to send to children battling health issues.

With over 150 volunteers in attendance, you may wonder how we had the space for so many arts and crafts! Our friends at Under Armour welcomed us into the Cheer Building at their headquarters downtown. Volunteers were able to move between craft stations, talk with friends and enjoy the day.

In line with the turkey day season, we also took part in a food drive with Living Classrooms. Our volunteers donated a ton of Thanksgiving staples to families in need, for which we later received thank you cards from the children of participating families.

For November’s after party, we were lucky to be one of the first groups to try out the new, Diamondback Brewery! We had a great time enjoying the warm(er) weather, playing foosball and trying the $1 off beers.
