June 2014 – Preparing Meals for Moveable Feast

On Saturday we assembled over 1,500 meals and worked in the Duncan Street Miracle Garden for Moveable Feast (www.mfeast.org). They are celebrating their 25th year this year and they have helped countless people and had tremendous impact in that time. Moveable Feast delivers healthy meals to people who have difficulty leaving their homes because they have HIV/AIDS, breast cancer or other life-threatening illnesses. Their slogan is FEED people FIGHT disease FOSTER hope.

We had a bunch of people in the kitchen assembling the meals, packaging them and placing them in the refrigerator. We wound up putting together over 1,500 meals! Those meals will go a long way in feeding the population Moveable Feast serves. Some of our volunteers also worked in Moveable Feast’s Duncan Street Miracle Garden. We planted, harvested and weeded. Most of the food harvested from the garden is used in meals for their clients. After the volunteering, we went to Admiral’s Cup where we had $2 specials on beers that you can’t find anywhere for $2. Everyone had a really good time celebrating the work we had accomplished in those three hours.

If you would like to volunteer with Moveable Feast, please contact Tom Patrick (tpatrick@mfeast.org) or Chris Jones (cjones@mfeast.org). They have all kinds of things that you can do from preparing meals and helping in their garden to delivering the meals to the people they serve.
